Preparing our papers before we create our Concertina Books

Repurposing maps and Kraft paper with a few layers of gesso first build up the altering surface for more to happen.  Also loosen up the arms by dragging and spreading that gesso around.  Movement is important in ways we will instinctually know later as it all comes together.

Creating our own little stamps opens the door to different kind of non verbal sentiments. The like marks made with the India Ink creating symbolism is also part of the process on the outside for the concertina and accordion books.

Using the instant coffee and the black walnut crystal dyes, a simple process to alter the surface and by masking off shapes with just cut out drawing paper we will set ourselves up for inspiration later on the folded pages.

To watch the India Ink drag across the paper by the leaves of the daylilies is an instant gratification. Marks lines that can't be follow to any set destination, falls into a beautiful dance. Chaos some would say and feel but to the likes of surface altering it's a must try and do sort of activity. this paper will be come the background and intuitive inspiration for our concertina fold pages.

The Accordion Cards start off with really an experience of water, acrylics and play. We will fold the watercolor paper later and deconstruct and to reconstruct and make a paper sculpture.

Our larger sheets of gesso Kraft paper are now forming into color study's and patterns

Working the surface of the different papers yesterday and preparing the book board for today.  We have accomplished our goals for the day.
