A Silent Mentor
I stumble upon Jane Davies so long ago and I've keep a watch mostly from a silent place and watch how, where and listened to why. Watch the building of her new studio space and even chatted on the phone once with her about some business stuff. She's a collage artist and painter and we have some similarities.
The thing about observing some one from afar is to keep yourself. It's not about copying someone's work but about the steps and process they take that give you/me inspiration to try things out with my own work.
I've long come to the conclusion that the work I make comes from a part of me way deep inside and not to question it but to work with it and let it direct me. I get bored easy and need to be stimulated often. I like to try new things and settle into old ways too.
I'm sharing this video of Jane's today because I also was inspired by the story of the Gee Bend Quilts. These woman of Alabama were isolated and worked with what they had around them and that was old clothes and created some really beautiful piece of art from the heart. After seeing the exhibit a while back in WI at the Milwaukee Art Museum The resilience of our creative souls as human beings always gets me.
Through Change, Chaos, struggles we find our ways and we grow.
