Embrace the Design Workshop is grounded in Magazine papers.

Starting with the Basics in collage with arrangement and placement of simple shapes, color and size.  Yes with the primary colors, this is a fun process to start with and then build from there.  When I see the primary colors I think of the first days of kindergarten but we all have to begin some where and begin again offers us all a good foundation under our fingers with glue too.

Our space is perfect for what we need and good lighting too. Naperville Art League has been around for 60 years this year and they are having a wonderful exhibit with the 60 year celebration of artwork people have made in the past that they will be exhibiting again.  They also offer one of the best Outdoor Art fairs in the area, Riverwalk.

We are working through the Elements of design, touch the papers and doing the simple exercise for our own memory and observation. Each art form has these fundamentals as of Gray scale.  We have to keep looking and observing all the time. Hard work but we have to keep training ourselves.  We get lazy and think we know...we do to a point but using our senses and awareness really brings life back into the whole process.

Working with balance, symmetrical and asymmetrical, again nothing like having reference in your own sketchbook of the process of how these design help a composition connect.

Taking a look at Grid Compositions in a simple steps from a organized and to randomness that is pleasing working the contrast and value with the excitement of size.

These two are mine....I was working again right along side of them filling my sketchbook with new awareness too.

Day two of the workshop, we build upon all the things we actively  have been working with and the students are seeing how this is happening by using a view finder to have a reference to expand on in our sketchbooks.
