Collage Tack Down 1 and 2
Collage Tack Down 3 and 4
Collage Tack Down 5

These videos are about an exercise in Layering the mixed media with collage using the tack iron for the collage fusion. You can keep going and layer as much as you want...soon though you have to stop and move on to more, but having fun pushing, covering rolling over scribing, printing, stamping and putting one more layer on...it's about building the visual history of your piece.

I'm confused by one part of your tacking down process, Laura....In step 5, it shows your watercolor substrate all of a sudden attached by tape to a larger surface, which is not shown in any of the previous steps??? When was this taping done? And then, how was it cut off and removed without cutting the watercolor paper beneath it? I'm confused...

  6. Hi, Miss Anonymous, The taping off of the watercolor paper wasn't shown....because I just decided to do the video and had the watercolor paper ready to go to show a quick process. if you email me...at lonecrow4 @ gmail.com I can share a bit more with you....

Do you mix any water into your glue mixture?

    1. Hi there....No I don't mix water to my polymer mediums or regular mediums unless I'm creating Stained tissue paper then I do but that's a whole different things.. just it straight up out of the bottle and brush it on and let it dry for the tack iron method.

What kind of polymer medium do you use? I have seen Golden matt medium and gloss acrylic medium. I was not sure what to buy.

    1. This is what I use...mainly because of the tackiness when it dries and when heat is applied it melts the layers together with the tack iron...I've used GAC 100 before when I could find the Polymer medium and I've used a glossing acrylic meduim but when I do Image transfer I have to use the polymer medium from Golden it works best so I just by it in the gallon size adn last along time...http://www.dickblick.com/products/golden-polymer-and-matte-mediums/

Hi Laura! I'm wondering what you use as a final coat for your artwork once it's all done. I have noticed that the polymer medium is sooo tacky that even when I want to be done with a project, I'm afraid because if paper touches it, it wants to adhere and leave paper fibers behind. Maybe it's because it's so humid where I live, but I'm wondering if you have any suggestions for a final sealant.

  11. THANK YOU so very much for sharing this video. I'm in the process of getting some of my collage materials prepped to try out your method. I do have a question... for the Polymer Medium does it matter if it's gloss or matte??? I have Golden gloss right now but use it infrequently b/c I find it stays sticky for longer and I prefer matte b/c it seems to dry better. Have you tried Liquetex??? I believe it's less expensive and a bit easier for me to find. Thanks, Emie

  12. HI Emie58, I use the polymer gloss medium for the purpose of the gloss and the tackiness that works well for the Tack iron process. it will be glossy till you varnish it and I finish my collage off with a satin varnish so it tones it down and it's not glossy. and Yes Liqutex is cheaper but it doesn't now work well for image transfers so I don't bother mixing them up I stick with one medium and that's Golden's Polymer Gloss Medium for all my works. A matt medium won't work the same for the Tacking Method of Fusion...maybe for other methods of collage but not this method I'm using...not that one is better it's a choice of the process is all.

  13. Once you glue your foam stamps onto the block, do you paint over them with polymer medium?
