it's Tuesday, what happened to Monday's post??? And collage techniques

1. Magazines picked to be altered.

2. first step with this technique is to use the polymer medium as a resist. Stamp the medium in patterns or randomly. Let it dry completely before the next step.

3. The dirty cotton wad at the top of the image is the Nevr Dull product. It is used for cleaning metal surfaces but in this case it's used to pull the pigment from the magazine off. You can rub harder and with lest intensity for different effects.

4. Here is the magazine almost completed, it will need to be coated on both side with the polymer for the proper application later in collaging. You can see the transparency of the back side of the magazine, some folks may like that some not but you could put an acrylic wash over it too.

5. Here is a collage that I created with the papers from the technique above. Long with a few others. This collage might have been show awhile back but I'm just repeating it for my student to refer to if they need a little extra. With good orderly directions this piece may be in the next National Collage Society book on different techniques used in the making of a collage. The first book can be found on the NCS site http://www.nationalcollage.com/ scroll to the very bottom.

Now some randomness of yesterday~

The mind is going I guess, I completely forgot to post yesterday. It has become a habit of mine to post most mornings and some afternoons on the blog here. I believe with trying to prepare a meal in the slow cooker, (by the way turned out great) I went about other things and off to work I went. It was a little crazy at work too, as classes start this week so we always have the last minute Lucy's and Larry's coming in to sign up. Heck the one class started with 4 and ended with 9 by the end of session. All good for the students and instructor. Did a little framing and then just small little things happened and the day was done.
I have my class today in Naperville, we will be doing the stained papers with the string so I've got to do some packing to bring all the stuff there. Each week we learn a different technique to use on some kind of papers we have and by the end of first session they have a good some of to collage with.
Information has been coming in for shows and art fairs lately which does get overwhelming at time especially when also getting the state taxes done is important too. I have to say the goal was to sell more art work and with out realizing it I double my income there from last year to this year,(how did that happen?) but that puts a damper on the funds, cause now the state wants their cut. I only hope that we (artists) can keep it up with the time of changes and have some good sales this year. I think it might be a good year if possible to make wiser choices about where to exhibit the work. Well that some reality there but on with some fun. My Friday Classes at LaGrange Art league are almost full. As I may have about two spot open so if you thinking of taking you better put a move on it fast. The class will be more intense, with the study focusing on making a series. Same old techniques but what to do with those will be stress on a much deeper level.
So now time to get a move on the early morning, my high schooler's have exams this week so they will be coming and going at different time. Last year for them, their the big kahoona's now!

Always love seeing your art process. It's fun to witness each step and then voila, the final creation. Amazing how you made the circles, so many tools we can experiment with, like tape roll? Well, I must say I stop in daily for my Laura Fix, so when you're not there, it throws me off. Keep up the good work, I do love your energy!
