Brown papers for collaging

1. Brown paper, with gesso applied with a grout spreader, horizontally and then vertically, creating this texture you see above.

2. Mixture of acrylics, polymer and water, about even amounts and spread it on with a large paint brush. I then wipe off with paper towels. I play with the amount of time before I use the paper towels. It does matter how long you leave it on there for the desired color and texture you personal would like to have.

3. Here is the paper with the mauve color.

4. I decided to add the raw senna to it after words and then some blue on top of that as you can see below.

5. After applying the acrylics I came backing into the paper with a baby wipe and really rubbed hard to get more of the white of the gesso to pop back up. The paper is finished except for the coat of polymer I will apply to both sides. I seal my paper for the two reason one to protect it from other found papers that is high in acid, such as this brown paper itself. And the second reason is the technique I use in creating the collage itself with the using a heat seal iron. I lay out my paper as I would like on a surface that is coated with the polymer(dried) and apply heat this then fuses the papers and becomes permanent and very flat.

I love to find ways to use ordinary paper (especially when it means recycling something that would have wound up in the trash) so this is really great! Thanks so much for the great idea(s).

If you can find the blue, red or white lunch bags you get some great papers with that and there reversable with soild color on the back. For us here in Ill. I find the paper lunch bags in colors at Target but I'm sure you can find them else where.
